As with the interior of a home, the exterior
is also important. In most cases homeowners work
backwards in their efforts to create the perfect dwelling. Allow us to explain.
Though the exterior
is in important with regards to looking great it is governed, if the home is
planned properly,
by the interior. Why's that? Because the function & utility, of your home,
should come first. In
the planning stage, of your new home, the living space should be your priority
as far as overall
square footage which will help determine room size, amount of baths, bedroom
size & quantity, etc.
Once this is established, the exterior can be more easily designed, around those
parameters, to
fit your needs & budget. Keep in mind that most homes are primarily priced
according to the
square footage, so building a house with huge areas of non-useable or
non-functional space can
be a waste of money. For example: building a 30' x 40' formal dining room in a
home where new
children might be in the future or if you're not much on entertaining, may be a
total waste of space.
It may be much better to re-direct your planning into using that area for an
office or media room
with an attached bath, then later converting it to an additional bedroom. These
are the things we
like to inform the homeowner when we help design their new home. We have a wide
variety of
plans available that can be modified, if necessary, to suit your individual
needs or we can start
from scratch utilizing your ideas and our experience to create the perfect home
for you.
Now, like we did with the cabinets, on the
Interiors page, allow us to help you with
regards
to consumer awareness. Not all homes are built alike and once again 'Custom'
does not
necessarily equate to more expensive, especially if you're going to compare
apples to apples
when shopping for your new home. Take a good look at the home as it's being
built (if the
developer will let you) and take note of some things while the house is still in
the skeletal,
or framing, stage. Do things look straight? Is the wiring & plumbing done in a
neat orderly
fashion? Is the exterior covered in plywood or foam? These are the types of
things that spell
"Corner Cutting" in our book. If time isn't spent building the mechanical, or
structural, part
of the home properly chances are good that the finish product will be inferior
as well. It may
'Look' good, but a few years on down the road and you may be very sorry for the
"Great Deal" you got on your new home.
We're not here to slander, or disgrace, any
particular contractor or developer, but let's face
facts some of the stuff they're building is junk and not even realistic to what
they're selling
these cookie cutter homes for. ALSAN, on the other hand, much prefers building
2-3 quality
homes annually as opposed to several hundred boxes that resemble a house. Volume
&
speed are true enemies to quality. An old friend once said to me: "you can have
it good,
you can have it fast & you can have it cheap... pick two." Think about it.
In closing please allow us to assist you on
your next home. We are a reasonable alternative
to the mass developer and we're quite sure you'll be more than satisfied with
our performance.
