Most of our interiors focus around a strong cabinet presence
and the ability to incorporate
these cabinets into your home by tying in the surrounding moldings such as chair
rails,
2-3 piece crown molding, door trims, base boards, etc. so that the overall
interior has
continuity from one room to the next. Below is an explanation of why our
cabinets lend
such a creative & long lasting appeal to your home.
We build all of our cabinets on site to the specifications
outlined on the plans and by our homeowners.
This is especially important because it's one of the areas of building that
truly personalizes your home.
It's here that beauty & function combine to give you maximum comfort & feeling
all within an
affordable budget. This is also extremely important when you're considering
remodeling an existing
home into a more customized or up to date home.
Cabinets come in a wide variety of shapes & sizes so before
purchasing your cabinetry, based simply on
looks or budget, please consider the following information we are
providing you, the consumer, for
an accurate and educated decision.
Custom cabinetry, contrary to popular belief, does not
necessarily mean expensive. What it does
mean is that the cabinets are being designed & built according to a specified
function whether it be
in a kitchen, bath, laundry room or other areas of the home requiring cabinets.
Function is the primary
concern, when building a custom cabinet, with the next biggest concerns being
cost & quality. As with
most things, in life, quality and cost are proportional to each other, so let's
compare apples to apples
regarding the quality of a cabinet before we consider the cost as this will give
you a better idea of what
you are really purchasing... Production Cabinets or Fine Quality
Cabinetry.
As we stated before we build all of our cabinets on site. What
this does is enable us to fit our cabinetry
to the walls, floors and ceilings without having to install unsightly fillers or
gap hiding materials making
the cabinetry much more appealing. The process of building on site also enables
us to more uniformly
layout the cabinetry. Production cabinets don't always provide the dimensions
necessary to do this, thus
you may end up with a series of doors, say in a kitchen, that may all be
different. This, in our opinion,
doesn't look real good and doesn't lend itself to an appealing final result or
effect. In short it looks like
"Production Cabinets". In addition to the layout not being quite right, with
production cabinets, you will
no doubt lose some of the function ability as well. Not Good. Keeping this in
mind let's move on to
understanding the quality and materials used in various cabinets available
compared to our cabinetry.
The materials used in building a cabinet is where the biggest
difference in quality lies. Production
cabinets are typically constructed of lesser grade materials such as particle
board, thinner gauge
ply wood, cardboard drawer bottoms, low budget glides or hinge hardware, the
list goes on & on so
the easiest way to educate you is to explain a little bit about what our
cabinets are constructed of and let
you make the final decision.
All of our cabinetry shells are constructed of 3/4 inch, birch
veneer, 9 ply, ply wood with either solid
pine board or the same birch veneer ply wood for shelving. In addition all
shelves typically have a
1.5" x 3/4" solid wood strip applied to the front edge to keep them from
sagging. In some cases where,
longer shelves are needed, we install the edge to front & back. All shelving,
unless otherwise specified,
is adjustable. We use 1/4" 'L' type shelf pins capable of much higher loads than
typical 1/8" spoon type
shelf pins. Our drawers are constructed of 1/2" maple veneer ply wood and
slotted to receive a 1/4"
ply wood bottom. In some cases, where heavy loads are expected, we will use 3/4"
birch veneer ply wood.
The drawers can be painted or left natural. We suggest natural in that dings &
scratches occurring with
everyday use don't show up as much. Our drawer glide hardware can vary depending
on the function
of the cabinet. Typically we'll use a white epoxy finish glide rated for 50
pounds. Other glides such as full
extension or ball bearing guided glides can be used and will handle weight
ratings as high as 200 pounds.
We have all of our doors built by a company specializing in cabinet doors. They
are available in a wide
variety of materials from MDF to solid woods and can be finished with stain,
paint or clear coats. Several
styles ranging from raised panel, flush or even inlay doors are also available.
The hinges we use are heavy
duty rated and will last the life of the cabinet. We also have a wide variety of
accessories available
such as a lazy susan, pull-out trash cans, pull-out spice racks, ironing board
closets, tip outs, etc.
In short please allow us the opportunity of pricing your next
cabinet job and we'll supply a list of
specifications for you to compare against other cabinet builders or production
cabinets.
